Piles & fissure treatment

The treatment for piles (hemorrhoids) and fissures involves a combination of lifestyle modifications, conservative measures, and, in some cases, medical or surgical interventions. Here's an overview of the treatment options:

Piles (Hemorrhoids) Treatment:

  • Dietary Changes: Increase fiber intake through fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to soften stools and promote regular bowel movements. Stay well-hydrated to prevent constipation.
  • Topical Treatments:Over-the-counter creams, ointments, or suppositories containing hydrocortisone or witch hazel may provide relief from symptoms like itching and inflammation.
  • Warm Baths (Sitz Baths): Soaking in warm water for about 15 minutes can help alleviate symptoms.
  • Oral Medications:Non-prescription pain relievers, stool softeners, or oral fiber supplements may be recommended in some cases.

Anal Fissure Treatment:

  • Dietary Changes: Increase fiber intake and stay well-hydrated to soften stools and promote regular bowel movements.
  • Topical Medications: Over-the-counter creams or ointments containing topical anesthetics, calcium channel blockers, or nitroglycerin may be prescribed to relax the sphincter muscles and promote healing.
  • Stool Softeners: Stool softeners can help prevent constipation and reduce strain during bowel movements.
  • Warm Baths (Sitz Baths): Soaking in warm water can help relax the anal muscles and promote healing.
  • Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy: In cases where conservative measures fail, a surgical procedure called sphincterotomy may be considered. This involves cutting a small portion of the anal sphincter muscle to reduce spasms and promote healing.
